CQ de K1RA

Hi,

I’m AndyZ, F.C.C. amateur radio station K1RA, and this is my Radio Activities web site. Here you will find articles, pictures and videos of my various Radio Adventures. I’m mainly interested in a facet of the hobby known as contesting, or radio sport, though I also enjoy DX’ing (long distance), QRP (low power) and mobile 2-way radio operations. Please navigate the menu bar at the top of this page beginning with About to see and read more about my hobby and the other radio stations, clubs and members I associate with. If you are more interested in just seeing my radio picture albums, click on the collage below.

Please visit my W4VA page for a list of topics I have recently presented to the Fauquier Amateur Radio Assoc. There you can download the Power Point presentation slides.

I recently finished a rove with John W1RT in the ARRL Sept VHF 2009 contest. Take a look at some pictures and read more about our adventure by clicking here.

For those in area of Fauquier county, I have an Echolink Internet-Radio gateway running on the W4VA 147.165 MHz (PL 167.9) FARA repeater. Read more about it under the VHF & Above link. The node covers Warrenton, Virginia and surrounding areas out into Fairfax and Reston to the north and east and Stafford and Shenandoah to the south and west. Link your portable or hand held radio to the internet and talk to the world!

73 and hope see you at a local club meeting or hear you on the radio or in an up coming contest !

    Hello, Andy!
I hope all is well, long time, no see! I still operate “Motorcycle mobile” and work as engineer for Howard University’s TV station, WHUT (PBS)-I now own over 9 acres at 2,340 ft elevation, on a mountaintop just north of Breezewood, Pa.–(It was a Western Union microwave site)The site is accessable all year via paved road, and includes TWO towers, height is 279 feet each, guyed, with 40″ triangular construction, and a concrete block building, 40′X 15′ with 400 ampere 3 phase, 115/208 volt service. (Also, I have a 100,000 watt-hour BATTERY installed at the site-7,200 pounds of battery!) Perhaps we could have a reunion/cookout/camping/radio event there sometimes, if enough of us could get together? I hope to make it into an amateur radio/retirement site, with wind and solar providing most of the energy for free. (the batteries are to store the wind/solar energy) You can reach me via cell phone, at:301-910-1766, home at:301-439-3873, work:301-656-9092, or on the mountain, at 814-928-4359.—73, KC3VO-Bob Curry

    Andy,
Really nice site here and at the Grid Pirates. Most of the Ham web stuff is pretty bad so its nice to happen upon your effort here.

    Hi Andy,

Stafford County will be on for the 2012 VA QSO Party. I will be using the call N4A as in years past.

Hope to work you on all of your county stops for those extra multipliers.

    73’s
    Tom, N4NW
